88mm round from Tiger? Opinions please.

    Hi guys,

I am trying to help out a friend on this one. I do not know anything about the munitions but he has been offered this round and has been told it is from a Tiger Tank. Can anyone help with some information and opinions?

Some of the basic questions are:

    1) Is this round from a Tiger and it so what sets it apart from other 88 rounds?

    2) Are the markings correct? Should the dates be mismatched?

    3) What type of round is it? High explosive, etc.?

    4) What is a fair price for something like this?

The last question is mine, not my friends. I'm just curious.

This round is by no means an original 8,8 cm Kw.K. 36 round.

Judging by the finish of the shellcase, i would say that came out of a warehouse in Finland.
It's not fitted with the proper eletric C22 primer by the way.

The fuze is a Az 23, which was not built strong enough to withstand the power of the Kw.K. 36 gun; for this, the Az 23/28 was developed.
So this shell should have been fitted with a Az23/28 if it were to be a "Tiger"round.

I do like the shell though, paint looks good....

95, maybe even 99 % of all rounds sold as "Tiger" rounds are nothing more then imported 8,8 cm Flak 18 rounds from Finland.
I think this one is as well.

But as long as the price is right, you get excellent value for money.

FLAK = fliegerabhwehr kanone, not panzer...

                      So ? what's you're point ?

There's no such thing as a shellcase stamped with "Kw.K. 36" instead of "Flak 18"

                          Never buy the story.
The better they are, the worse they usually are.

I have one like that. It is still the feared and famous German "88" round of WWII fame. Neat to own and not something one sees every day. With proper primer and fuse (fuze?), it could be used in a Tiger I's main gun.
