KM Overseas/Side Cap Question

I will be visiting U-505 in Chicago soon. Because of this, I have been reading about and researching U-Boats.

This research led me to a uniform question:

Regarding overseas/side caps, what is the difference between, say, a coastal defense KM cap and a U-boat crewman cap? Or was the same cap issued? I don't typically see KM caps for sale...

I'd say the colour more than anything.... field grey vs. dark navy blue. U boot caps were often seen with added unit or crew emblems or badges, but other than that were regular KM caps.
