Interesting very late war U Boat grouping

An interesting grouping as this chap was photographed wearing the actual awards, photo must have been taken post surrender in May 1945, note the ribbon covering eagle swastika in photo.

His service history is also fascinating, France, English Channel, Norway etc plus post war service to 1946 (probably mine clearance operations).

Anyone seen the felt backed u boat patch before? Any comments or help appreciated.

Hi,

based on the service document I would have thought we would have received a Minesweeper badge as he served from June 43 to end of march 45 on surface vessels.
So either he received the u-boat badge before this (then the document entry would be wrong) or served April and May 45 on an U-Boat somewhere in Norway..but then very less time to receive the award.
Furthermore the stamps are from Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 516...which would fit on the screening document were its stated his unit is Artillery Weapon command...

I cpould not find any records for the man himself or the signing Kaptiaen von Helmert.
Very difficult sometimes to put all this together..

Late 1945 were officials barely following any regulations! Alsoif he served after 1945 - there were no Third Reich to approve awarding. I have RK grouping with similiar situation. RK awarded based on Donitz decree around 8.5.1945 even with documentation but not officially approved by Wast.
