Outside image hosting/third party hosting policy

Outside hosting is when a poster uses a third party platform to upload images and then uses a link to that third party platform to display images on this forum. Eventually, those third party (outside) images go away and when they do, the thread here remains but without the images that went with it.

    Therefore:

Posts or new threads which contain photos that are hosted by an outside source will be closed. In special cases, at the discretion of moderators or association members, photos from outside hosting might be and can be copied and pasted back into such threads by moderators or any association member but this will be the exception, not the rule.

The goal is not censorship but preservation of thread integrity.

This policy is instituted in order to preserve the threads for later reading and thus also preserving the integrity of the overall forum, being one of the best sources on the planet for this hobby. It has unfortunately happened over the last years that a very large amount of threads became useless due to the missing photos. This policy will stop that degeneration of the forum.

Does this mean pictures from eBay are against the rules now?

        Excellent point!!!

This is technically not what we were talking about, but ebay, links to dealers, etc., would fall under this policy since the images would go away sooner or later.

We moderators only have so much time to contribute to this forum.

To address your specific question on this specific sub forum, no, I will not close links to ebay since it rarely comes up anymore and links to dealer websites are fairly rare too.

I request help from association members to copy and paste the images to the thread in question.

If I cannot get such help and if it becomes burdensome to me, yes, I will close it.

You are correct though, it is exactly the same issue, just much less an issue than third party hosting.

        Thanks for the comment.

I totally agree with all this in principle as it is best for the forum and its members. Also best as the images are available for future reference, however.. specifically in my case I have no access to a computer or laptop so I find it very difficult to upload photos via the forum servers, this is why I use tapatalk because it makes the forums easier to read etc while using my iPhone. I don't know whether the photos I upload are hosted by them or not to tell the truth. Basically I access the forum through tapatalk and just click an image from my phone and it instantly gets onto this forum, I would struggle very much to go via the forum servers in the future for the reasons above, is this a problem ?

I just tried to post an image from my Samsung phone and the file size is too large. I would have to resize it for the attachment to work.

Basically, if the image is stored in your phone, you should be able to attach it to a thread here I think, but you have to get the file size within forum parameters.

So no problem after I resized the camera settings in the phone to forum specs.

I think that is going to be OK. The image is somehow embedded in the post as far as I can tell.

It is not a link to an off site hosting service.
