Since Jena is a town that lay in the former East Germany/DDR. The leather case would properly had been stamped " Made DDR " just like Carl Zeiss Binoculars, if it had been made after war.

I think the case is prewar made and that matches very good with that early Kriegsmarine eagle stamp.

That is an excellent question Nick and that is what I am trying to find out with my initial question if any other items have been observed with the same M III/8 stamp!

I guess the Kriegsmarine brought them from the firm and stamped them afterwards.

So Zeiss made the case between the wars and stamped it with its standard commercial trade mark
Then got an order from an English speaking country so stamped it made in german
But before it could be shipped off the km put in an order and it was sent to them instead?
I have not seen this mark on other km Bino cases

I guess you have a good point there. It all sounds a bit strange.

I have a pair of zeiss KM eagle marked 8X30 binos together with the brown leather case, there's no "Made in Germany" under the CZJ logo, the eagle stamp is different too.

                        Hi Joe,
Here's a few pictures of my brown leather entrenching tool carrier marked with a very similar KM eagle. Obviously not a German WW2, but maybe a foreign one accepted for use by the KM>
If anyone recognises this type of carrier or knows its origins, please let me know.
                        Martin

Here a picture of one of my 7X50 gasmask CZ bino cases. Although not the same style eagle as on the one you posted, it appears there is some additional markings underneath the Eagle and M, but too small for me to read properly.
