    Olt. Gerold Hauber reefer

Hello all, I would like to hear you opinions about the reefer from U170 Kommandant, Oberleutnant Hans-Gerold Hauber.

Maker label is consistent with other examples from this maker and time that I have seen.

Hi Eduardo, beautiful tunic! All looks good as far as I can see from these pictures. What's the year it was made in? Can't see the last digitin the picture.
Do the award loops match his decorations?

I like the group, the visor is not the one pictured, but could be another visor of his.J

And what about the lack of buttonhole in the lapels?, it's just a tailor style or as some collectors say all period reefer had these, so this one would not be a period one.

I don't have a definitive answer, but both my reefers have buttonholes. Jacket still looks good to me. J

Jacques, also mine, this is the most usual for sure, but I had one with no buttonholes that looked not bad for me, so as you I don't have a definitive answer

                Hello Eduardo,
Always difficult to have a definitive opinion on pictures.
I have never seen on wartimes pictures a reefer tunic without lapels buttonholes. Anyway, I don't have a good feeling and will pass on this auction.
                Just my opinion.

I always wondered why some of them have button holes in the lapels but no buttons underneath to use the holes.

Some have upper buttons, some not....But all I have seen have atleast the holes.

I must say I have no problems with this tunic. And looking at pictures of Hauber published at uboat.net I can't see he a button hole to his tunics either. It might even be the same tunic.

                      Does anyone has larger pictures?

Klaus I doubt it is the same tunic in both pics. In the first I can see buttonholes , also he is a nco, so pic was taken much earlier.

I found this pic of Topp with no buttonholes? No just saw the buttonholes on the larger pic. J

Let's take this one to proof they existed then.

the KM visor being offered on Ratisbon is a real stinker however
that in itself will taint the auction

Quite intersting, I have had this grouping in my hands and the tunic had then no name label in it that I could find. Another collector bought it at Kasel and asked me to look at it. I did not like the reefer jacket (and Eduardo did'nt at that time either). My judgement at that time was that this was a put together grouping around the soldbuch and there was no evidence supporting that the rest was from Hauber. The collector returned the grouping.
