    Unidentified shoulder insignias

Hello, I saved this picture form ebay, unfortunately I couldn't bid for it.

This Leutnant from the Marineartillerie in the reserve is wearing two tresses on the shoulders, I never have seen something like this before, are you? Do you know for what were these used?

Photo could be dated between April 1935 (the introduction of the new eagle style emblem for the visor cap) and July 1936 (when the visor of the officer caps were decorated with the rank embroidery)

    Any idea?

A very interesting photo. I have been looking through all of my Kriegsmarine militaria books ,but i can not find anything that explains those tresses. It is a bit of a mystery, one most say

Indeed a very interested picture Eduard,....thanks for showing Could it be that these tresses indicate that he was in the reserve? It seems that these tresses has been sewn directly on the tunic, instead of sewing them on a shoulder board, which is a really odd feature. I see no traces on the other shoulder (tresses)

The badge he has on his arm , just above the rank stripe tells us he is in the reserve.
The badge has oak leafs, that means he in the reserve

Yes, these tress are directly sewn on the tunic, with a blue cloth backing. I have not seen any reference of these a reserve corps insignia.

my guess: if he is wearing his frock coat "Rock", this could be the loops for attaching his epaulettes.

Morten, that was one of the options, but it should be just one, and IMO he is wearing the reefer, no shoulder boards, no shoulder button, ...

Thank you for giving me some proper education but it was a sort of brainstorming Mr danish dragoon,..... could it be that these tresses are made for the aiguillette? because i think that this is a frock coat?

I have found out what the tresse means. Former Kaiserliche marine officers wore this on " Auswählübungen " before they were allowed to stay in the reserve.I found this in the Adolf Schlicht and John R. Angolia book on page 142-143. See the pictures

well done Jens, it is all in the books!!

question: it looks as if the right person wears his Fahnrich rank on his shoulder?
