    Leatherjaket of U-Boatcommander Knackfuss ???

    Hello to all,

there were three Uniform pieces from the legacy of U-Boatcommander
Ulrich Knackfuss offered, one of it was a leather jacket,
wich doesnt really look like a typical KM-Uniform jacket.

Does anyone know, where these jackets were originally used?

    Thanks and regards
    Johann

Looks impressive. Jackets of all types could have been privately acquired, especially in the case of officers,
who were supposed to obtain their own garments in general, going to tailors, Kleiderkasse expenditures...
so personal preferences happened! So I would believe in it as presented!
(Zip brand? snap closure brand? Would help with dating!)
Photographic proof of the guy wearing the jacket would be amazing!

        Thank you Nick and Ludwig.

My bid on this set was successfull and I got the pieces today.
I vas very happy about it because I bought the visor of OLt Knackfuss a couple of years ago (see the photos) and I found it such exciting to find more from him.

Espeacally the leather jacket shows wear by holes and scratches on the front and back. It seems shoulderboards used to be fixed on it before.
The zip-brand is "FIX"- anyone heard of it before?

This is my christmas present to myself!

By the way, which picture-upload-service is the best for use at the WAF?

        Johann

I think you have a very nice jacket here ! Congratulations.
I saw the same type on a period picture. Will look for it.

Beat is to upload photos on the WAF server.

            Regards
            Christian

The same jacket is shown in the book

"The German U-Boat Base at Lorient, France, Vol. II: July 1941-July 1942"
                from Luc Braeuer

on a photo of Amelung von Varendorff, commander of U-213

Seems to be a special type for u-boat officers. A great find, thank you Christian!

Here's a impressive portrait of Ulrich Knackfuss, I found another collector that has got the estate of awards, photos and documents of the Knackfuss brothers and theire father.

Ulrich used to be the 1. watch officer on U-48 below "Vaddi" Schultze for a while before he got his own command.

I'm very happy about another find of a photo with one of these type of jackets:
                  Olt. Hans-Dietrich Schwarzenberg

                  here's a link for it:

                      Hi Fernando,
I have got four of these white KM tunics and all I can say ist, the ones (2) with stamps with the makers name have got the lapels buttonholes, the others (2) don't.

So i assumpt that the tailor made ones mostly don't depending to the preferences of the wearer.

The crazy thing is, one of the other tunics I have belonged to Olt. Dietrich Sachse, and I found out that his boat belonged to the 1st U-Flottille Brest just like Ulrichs Boat. Here's a photo made a couple of days before Ulrichs (2. from right) boat got sunk. Dietrich next to him (3. from right).
