    Coastal Artillery Breast Eagle

    Hi All,

What are your opinions on this breast eagle ?

I bought this at a militaria show about 35 years ago in Colorado, USA.

    Hello Dave,

These eagles are highly debatable! Some collectors do not like them because of the saw tooth pattern that is present in the weave above the fold line on the reverse above the wing. On any other BeVo weave eagle this would be the kiss of death. This eagle has 2 distinct characteristics that I believe make it an original . 1). The base material has a horizontal stripe look too it. It appears to be a little more open weave. I have found this material only on KM/CA cap eagles. From what I have see when they are on this material they have the saw tooth pattern above the wing. 2). The weave has a very fine twist to it. When looking at the back you can see the twist if you look very closely. As far as I know, no reproduction eagle has this twist.

I talked to Johnny vd Heijden at great lengths about this prior to his passing. There is a thread, which I cannot locate at the moment , that discusses this twist. I believe that this eagle is a nice original KM cap eagle.
