    Help With Kriegsmarine Visor

    Hello,
I recently purchased this visor from a reputable firm. Unfortunately there are a few things I don't like about it - in particular that only the lower portion of the wreath is sewn on, apparently by hand, the peak doesn't seem high enough to accommodate the eagle and swastika comfortably above the wreath, and the chin strap looks very shiny -almost like vinyl.
There are a few other things that make me wary too, but maybe others will pick them up.
The maker's name was so rubbed as to be indistinguishable under normal light but I was able to manipulate the photograph to show that it is Aug. Geiger of Kiel.
I'm a novice, and I may well be wrong so please tell me if I am and you think it's ok.
If you think it is wrong, please list your reasons. It came from an established firm and if it comes to it I suspect that they won't be that keen on accepting it back without good reason. I'd like to be able to direct them to this thread. So please no posts like "Dreadful " as that really won't be useful! Thanks in advance for your help
    Keith

Hello Keith, I don't like it, IMO these Aug.Geiger visors are no war period, probably a psot-war one. Sweatband, lining, ... don't match with Kriegsmarine caps. Even not sure if the visor has been replaced. I would sent it back as soon as possible.

            Hallo Keith

            I agree with Eduardo.

I had already seen this visor at the beginning of 2013 (I remember it for the same unmistakable scratch to the inner peak) and at that time it had not received a favorable comment.

            best regards

I agree with Eduardo and Marcello.
IMO, this is a post-war Bundesmarine visor with (poorly) added TR insignia.

                Hi Keith,
I had one with exactly the same liner form Aug. Geiger a few years ago. That was definitely a postwar cap, as this one seems to be.
                Regards,
                Martin

The aim of a any firm is to make money, not to maker collectors happy. I hope you get your money back. That is the least one should expect from a reputable firm. Good luck!

                        Kriegsmarine Visor

Just wanted to say "thank you" to all those who took the trouble to reply. Glaser - I think you're even more cynical than me! "The aim of a any firm is to make money, not to maker collectors happy" (below). Ethics aside, surely making collectors happy, and developing customer loyalty, is a good way to sell your wares and make money? That used to be the case. I'd like to think that those who do a good job reap some rewards for their efforts ... but maybe not. Best regards

As Eduardo said this visor is post war for one very simple reason: Aug.Geiger visors diamond with the lighthouse are only post war made.

                          Best,
                          Luca

I don't know if I can agree with the above, but I will say that every August Geiger-marked visor that I have seen has been postwar (as this one is).

The company was around before WW2, but IMO, but it appears they did not mark their wartime hats.

The only period hats that I can recall seeing (off the top of my head) that had maker's marks were Nordmark, DOVA, Erel, & Hammaburg

Interesting .. So if the lighthouse symbol is printed on the plastic diamond it's post war!

So what if the gold lighthouse symbol is printed on the fabric underneath the plastic diamond .. is that original pre-War 1930's then?
