Qualification Badges for Review

Hi,

I recently pick up a large lot of Kriegsmarine qualification cloth badges. They all seem to come with 2 different type of backing, a canvas type (left) and a cheese cloth type (right). Am I correct to say that both type are W.W.2 original. Thanking you all in advance and hoping to hear from some of you very soon.

No you are not correct these badges where produced for the German navies after the war into the 1960s, great care needs to be taken when collecting these. The only way to be sure is to collect hand embroidered insignia, which is very difficult to get hold of.

Here's some insignia with similar webbed backing identified by Fred Green as post-war reproductions made in the U.S by "Patch King". I don't know whether or not your KM insignia is from the same source but the construction is certainly similar.
