I recently purchased a Kriegsmarine lot. The lot contained this interesting piece. Does anybody know what it is ?

never seen something like that, but maybe it is a personal gift to an officer/private who served at the "U-48"? They had a so called ships cat logo...

Actually lots of the U boats had a ship's cat, so not sure about the U 48.
