    Hi,

its a copy of a cap the U-Boot archive is holding in its possession.
The seller mentions very, very, very vague that it is a copy....IMHO to deceive buyers.

    Regards
    Christian

Yes, and some of their cap badge repros are offered by a crook for 10 to 20 times the price on E-Bay Germany.

              Hi Jacquesf,

The fabric patches are original on the original cap (proven by fotos, the cap was given by the owner to the archive) and repro on the ebay cap....

              Regards

This is the kind of thread that becomes completely useless later when the links and linked images disappear. So for posterity, here's the original cap from the Deutsches U-Boat Museum and the e-Bay fake from seller "dr-tree" that was originally produced by warhats.com as a museum-quality reproduction.

The photos on e-bay were directly lifted from warhats.com website but the swastika was Photoshopped out. As mentioned warhead.com has it listed for sale for £405 GBP full postage & insurance included. I wonder if the e-bay seller "dr-tree" just tries to make a sale on e-bay for a higher amount and then orders the hat from warhats.com, thus turning it over at a profit?

This seller sold more ugly ones already by misleading potential buyers.
All his crappy cap adds also end with:
"Nach Verkauf keine Garantie oder Rückgabe möglich" (after sale no warranty and returns are not accepted). That says enough usually.

                              Sorry, misinterpreted your question.

The cap belonged to Herbert Schubert.
Coming from an NCO rank he was promoted to officer. This shown nicely by the addition of the metal scallops to the visor.
The round badge should be the insignia of U-453. The Mickey Mouse emblem is unknown. (this is stated from the book "Torpedos Los" in which is a nice period picture of Schubert wearing the cap as an NCO)

                              Regards
