    KM Star globe opinions please

    Hi.

I am not so familiar with this type of globes so I need your opinions on this.
I have searched the internet and the forum to find a similar globe to this one, but they all seems to have been made out of a different metal than this one and also they have this wooden base. (sorry for my bad English)

    Best regards,
    André

It's a "Astronomical/Constellation" globe for Naval navigation.... would have been in a wooded box.... common aboard Submarines for plotting their position from the stars.... not sure if larger vessels also carried them... probably.

          Nice Kreigsmarine related item.

Thanks for all the replies and thanks for the link amiklic1.

On this one, the protractor/angular is not made of brass. Is this added post war or did some have this material as well? Not sure what the material is though....

                Regards,
                André

I think everything is original on your piece, it's just other material they have used. Somehow I feel that "NWK" mark is used post full name, so they have prbably gone from brass to a kind of a plastic, because there was a high demand for brass.

Does anyone know if these were used and produced postwar, also?

                          Hi,
As far as I found out, the Nautische Wrkstaetten Kiel stopped to exist in 1945, so no post-war manfuactruing from them.
I think Andre's globe is brass to but only painted in grey!?
                          Regards
