I was wondering how torpedos were launched from u-boats, s-boats and multiple torpedo tube launchers installed on surface ships.
What I am wondering is once a torpedo is placed in a tube is target bearing information and target speed information transmitted to the torpedo and if so, how? Especially with the later torpedos that took indirect routes to the target how was this done? Also, when the torpedo was launched, how was the motor started? If information was fed to the torpedo prior to launch was there a way to verify the information had been received by the torpedo and that all systems were go for launch?
As I study photos of early s-boats I am noticing wiring harnesses to the tubes so I am trying to figure out what these may have been for.
