    U-74 Emblem badge

Please could I have opinions from experts on u-boat emblem badges as to whether this badge is an original. It shows on the reverse side a manufacturers "028" mark.
My follow up picture shows Kptlt Eitel-Friedrich Kentrat wearing this badge on his Schirmnutze Officers Cap (he was the first of U-74's two commanders)

    Many Thanks

    Steve

so Steve to answer your question: yes it is original, but not specifically designed for that U-Boat, value is a couple of euros

            thanks for the info Glaser.
Having been sold this item many years ago by a reputable dealer as the insignia of U74 cap insignia, I was rather hoping it would be confirmed as such.
Does anyone know anything about who the manufacturer marking 028 belonged to ?
I don't think it is a German Winter Relief badge as the previous member seems to suggest, as it looks too much like that worn in the photo by Kptlt Kentrat.
Can anyone else add anything further ?

            Steve

              Hi,
Definitely WHW, 2nd collection done in October 1940
              Here is your badge:
              http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Complete-S...rksid=p2047675

In a german navy forum it's discussed that Kendrat (the Kaleu shown on the picture) is wearing one of those WHW pins. But his crew had worn different badges.
So your pin is same/similar to what shown in the picture but worth only some Euros...unfortunately.
              Regards
              Christian

Yep, this is the answer! The fact that a commander has put a badge on its schirmmutze, doesn't mean that is a u-boot symbol!

Thank you both Christian and Frank Savage for your comments on this matter, and accept what you both say.
I agree that it is indeed the same as the one shown on Ebay as a WHW badge from Christian, and just because Kentrat is shown wearing a similar badge doesn't automatically make it the U boat crews chosen cap emblem (although the white axe was one of U74's three used emblems) as Frank Savage has stated.
