Cap tally for id

Hi, just pick this cap tally, and I read that the ship was Norwegian , but used by the Germans during some part of WW2 to transort the wounded.I have no expertise in this area and would really appreciate some comments. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

congrats and welcome in the world of cap tallies. Yes, indeed a NAL (Norske Amerikalinje) ribbon of the "S.S. Stavangerfjord" (1918-1964).
During the war she was laid up in Oslo and used by the KM as accommodation ship.

Any idea if that tally is pre-war or not? Amazing that ship sailed for 47 years or so. Amazing.

yep, in the good old times the ships were built for eternity ...

Well, as you know the merchant navy tallies are not really my area and maybe one of the Norwegian members can shed some more light on your question - however, I once owned one of Stavangerfjord and one of Bergensfjord and I noticed a difference in quality between them: one nice, smooth and silky; the other stiff and rough. Guess, which I would assign to which "age" ...?

Again, the good old times ...

I agree, if I had to guess, I would assign this tally as pre-war, probably the 1930's.
