Kiste der Soldatenbücherei Wilhelmshaven

This crate I just picked up. The story is that it was brought to the Netherlands by a forced laborer, who worked in Germany. The Soldatenbücherei also published books, but I guess this crate either hung in barracks, or was transported to several units and ships to loan books.

The books were not included, I placed them inside to have a better look.

Anyone has more ideas or information?

Maybe this case has been used when the relevant soldier went for leave which mean that the soldbuch was left by the unit during his absence.

Soldbuchs were always carried with the soldier, no matter on leave or not. Also, the crate was used for normal books, not for Soldbücher. The Soldatenbücherei was a publishing house, (novels mostly). They also provided soldiers with some reading material by visiting units and selling and or loaning books.

Were thinking about this last night, and a friendly member also pointed it out..

Have to correct myself ..although the Soldbuchs were taken with soldiers when on leave, but when the ship sailed the SB's were on land with the Stab. (although it did happen that soldiers took them with them occasionally)

That's the second one I see, I have sold mine this Summer. In mine there was a List of all the books which are supposed to be inside. There are 76 sets of books and this one is the number 38.

There should have been more cases, I think this was quite a large organisation. Do you perhaps still have photos of the one you had? Did the list of books contain all kind of books, or just the ones from the Soldatenbücherei publishing house?
