Civilian item that has been "augmented" in with a fake Kriegsmarine stamp to increase its value!

That is a tourenzahler recording device that was attached to the framasham in order to record its RPM so that the sicasor gear inside the sortasay did not over heat and cause prostration of the dingleupus and thus preventing the u-boat's Koltercrank from seizing. Only the second one I have ever seen. Hope that helps.

Excellent explanation, except that Koltercranks were not used in U-Boats but only in destroyer engines.

Holzgas U-Boats engines are all postware fakes....there is no prove that they were build wartime !
If you know better, show me the facts !!

There is debate about whether war or post war manufacture. The parts are all consistent with war time manufacture but there is no proof that they were assembled before or after the war so the best one can say is that they are "wartime compatible". The paint on the older examples is certainly wartime made but on later serial number engines the finish is for sure post war. It is my understanding that these were all made by a single firm in Vienna, Austria, the name of which escapes me now.
