Kriegsmarine Donald Duck Cap

I recently purchased a Kriegsmarine DD Cap.

It is the type that can be taken apart.

It came with the white cover.

It is age spotted.

I was wondering if I should clean it or leave it as it is?

If I clean it would it depreciate the value any?

These spots will not come out no matter what you do. I guess you could bleach them out, but the cotton thread is so old, you probably would destroy the cover.

I think you just leave it like it is. If it was surface dirt, maybe different. These old spots are different. Of course, careful cleaning with special soap, like German bile soap, would make it look a bit better, but not much IMO.

The value of these covers is not that high in any case. I personally would not mess with it.
