Hi guys, I know these are very hard to tell if original. Has anyone seen this type before? Is it a well known fake or does it stand a chance of being a good one. All comments and opinions are greatly appreciated.

Can't say overall, but the pin construction is of era and post design without a doubt.

This has similarities to the 5th Unterseebootsflottille. I have seen another but the seahorse wasn't cut out, it was in the appearance of a shield.
These are some of the easily faked items out there. The job is quite impressive and this could very well be a period piece. There are metal artisans who are creating these every day on ebay and other sites. These have become such a "landmine" when collecting.
This is a quality craftsmanship piece, I don't believe that it is period IMO.
Just looks too "new".

Thanks guys for taking the time to comment. Justin I agree its looks pretty good in this picture. I took it with a flash. Not quite as bright in hand. As far as being new it could very well be post 1945. However I have had it for over 26 years so not to new. Thanks again for looking.

It's too bad these are difficult to authenticate. Does look nice though, and would so on a KM hat.
