    Metal eagle question

    Hi guys

I was wondering, how can one distinguish a metal KM summer tunic eagle from an metal army general summer tunic?

    Thanks!

    Giel
    Kind regards,

Giel, that's an easy one to answer.

When a dealer is buying a gilt metal BE, it is Kriegsmarine.

When a dealer is selling the same gilt metal BE, it is for a General.

But of course, in actual fact, there is no way to distinguish and I highly doubt it was of any concern way back then.

Same thing with the Campaign shields, the black cloth behind the shields of the Kuban or Krim, sellers and collectors mostly claim it is Panzer unit attributed yet Kriegsmarine used the same color.

I had a Krim shield with dark blue cloth backing, not black ;-)

                  Good one Tim!

Actually gold KM summer eagles have webbed feet and Heer Generals have spurs but its a well kept secret and it takes a trained eye to notice. Since the difference in price can be as high as 200 euros between a regular KM and a "Generals' bird" the few dealers "in the know" never share this info with the sellers, only with the buyers

Quality birds tend to be dubbed as General eagles by some dealers and one type in particular seems to be called that way but since these were all private purchase pieces the wearer could buy whaever he wanted

Giel you should post the bird in question if you can just to see if it matches the pattern

                  Regards

                  JC
