Aviso Grille Mützenband or Cap Tally

I recently put together a small collection of items that I have from the Aviso Grille. I am posting the link below because I cannot figure out how to load the images on the site. I just happened to be looking up some information on the Grille when I found a cap tally for sale from her - so I purchased it for 80 Euro.
When I was trying to find general information on them, I found it was made of cellon but that's about it. I am trying to figure out if there were many of these made because the Grille was such a small ship. I was only able to find 2 others online and mine is in better condition than both. I am assuming no reproductions were made for this particular tally as well. Thoughts?

    cap tally Grille

    Hi Eddie,

nice to see you here on the forum. Whether the tally is Cellon or Metall is hard to say from the pictures. We need a little more detailed picture from a single letter from obverse and reverse side.
It is not a tally, which comes for sale every fortnight. However, I know about at least 20 or 30 in collections and every year there are 3 or 4 in various forums, auction houses, dealers, etc on the www .

80 Euro was a bargain anyway, that's for sure.

Well, you did get a bargain for this muetzenband in this collectors eyes. The arm shield that was worn by KM crews who were assigned to the Aviso Grille is an even more impressive piece of insignia which is really rare to come across. It looked like the Fuhrer standard and was worn on the Left sleeve.

There is a wonderful pinned thread in the KM uniform/insignia section. Really helpful.

Hello Justin - that is what mine looks like. Small elongated gold threads. I looked at the closed forum on the site for cap tallys. I have several Gustloff ones that I believe are all cotton, but this Grille tally was one I had never seen before. Thanks!

I have one as well - they do pop up now and then.

80 euro is a good prize like Daniel says. Yours looks like a metallfaden to me but larger pics would help a lot.

You'll be surprised what has been copied, not that I recall a specific one of the Grille. Believe it's only the Schiffstamm's that haven't been copied so far?!

Nice page you have, will have a closer look.

I could easily email better close ups if requested of the back. As I said, I am unsure about the photo path to load them on here since I keep them in My Pictures and have no clue what the http path is.

              Regards, Eddie

                        Hi Guys,

                        No doubt Metallfaden....

Here is my example, sorry the picture is not square but this is all I have of it at the moment until I get it out of storage. 80 Euro is a great price for a rare tally!
BTW - this is also Metal thread!! My favorite type!!

                        Cheers

Wonderful tallys. I have had no luck in find the metallic wire version of this cap tally. Anyone know where I should be looking?
