Ok... somebody must know! The buttons on this (very dark green) KM HBT tunic are all black bakelite. It's a 44 dated tunic.

Has anybody ever seen these before?

      Hi Jack,
It's impossible to pronounce on these buttons as the photographs are blurred...
Could you take some shots close up of one of these buttons please :
      - the back with the maker marks
      - the front

      Thanks
      Christophorus

I don't need advice on wether they are black bakelite or not... they ARE black bakelite. The question is "has anybody ever seen these before"? There are no markings on the reverse.

I think I've found a really rare late war variant.

          Hi Jack,
It seems for most of us the first time to see a Km button made from bakelite instead of glass, aluminum, brass and zinc. Is it possible to supply us with better pics because we also like to learn it's a sort of two-way traffic you know? Thanks in advance,
          Best regards Christian

they don't seem to have the proper KM details.

They are almost identical to this standard button, minus the reverse and the anchor detail. All the miniature horizontal lines are there.

                  Salut,
They dont look like at all like Kriegsmarine buttons to me.

Definitely not Kriegsmarine buttons for me as well...
Even if dark green buttons were used during the third reich era (especially on forestry tunics), the details on the anchor looks very very different.
                    All the best
