    Kriegsmarine Officer's Visor Cap

I just bought a small collection of Kriegsmarine items and will be offering many of the items here. I did not commit to buying this Kriegsmarine officer's visor cap yet since I wanted to get opinions first. The collector told me he bought this cap about ten years from a dealer for $2,200. As you can see, the insignia is rayon. The maker marked is AG Kiel and there is a word or words beneath that which I can not make out. I am interested in hearing what everyone has to say about this visor. Thanks!

                Hallo!

Be careful with these... The Reichkriegerbund wore schirmmutze very similar to those of KM personnel. They change in visor and the band, that is not 'smooth' but some draw with HK and firehouse (almost the same stamped on the diamond inside). Also some postwar kind of cap looks very close to the KM ones, and with few changments they could fooled someone that want buy a wartime german navy visor. The diamond itself looks to me made in plastic... Chek it, take a look under the sweatband if the visor have some manipulation (even if I don't know if this kind of post-war visor could still get the wreath for the officers), and if the band could be changed..

                Good luck!

                Cheers!

                  Hallo stormfighter

I'm not a KM collector, but these links could be helpful for comparison:

                    Hello,
Without having the cap in hands I can't be 100 % sure, but my feeling is not good.
The original war time August Geiger caps are rare, logo and making are a little different.
                    Best regards from France,
                    Michel

Thank you for the links enorepap! So now I know that the cap was made by August Geiger of Kiel and that the words under the logo are Eingetr. Schutzm. standing for Eingetragene Schutzmarke (Registered Trademark). It's good to see that this cap was produced by a known World War II cap manufacturer; however, I also see that the manufacturer also made caps after the war.

Incidentally, although the sweatshield may appear to be plastic, I think it could be celluloid. It is flexible, however the edges are very stiff. I also want to mention that the top of the cap is not removable. The band having the cockade is removable; however, the cockade was secured with black thread through the lining of the visor. The inside of the leather sweatband is undisturbed and the pins of the buttons have verdigris.

I am hoping that one or more of you Kriegsmarine cap experts can confirm whether this cap is original since I can buy it for a reasonable price. As previously noted, a well known dealer sold it as an original ten years ago for $2,200. Keep the information coming and thanks to all who have responded so far.

                      Barry

Can you post a picture of the wartime August Geiger logo? Thanks!

Any more comments? I would like to tell the seller my decision by Friday if possible. Does anyone think the cap has a chance of being original?

                            Hello Km collectors,
On the moment Bill Shea (the Ruptured Duck) offered a identical cap from the same maker but this time it's a enlisted ranks cap what do you think guys? The price he asked is $3550 dollars so i may hope that Bill is convinced about the originality of this cap
                            Regards Christian
