Kreigsmarine compass

I scooped up this marching compass yesterday. I've never seen one of these marked for the Kreigsmarine before.
All comments welcomed and what does the # 153 stand for?

Hello, first time also for me, I know that KM men used these while infantry trainig but never seen one like this before, the stamp looks not bad.

Looks very interesting. Like to see more images of the compass open. The number is serial number--it is not clear how these were serialized though, at least I do not know. For sure they were not 1 through XXXX. More likely by year or some other system to keep track of them. They would be part of the ship's gear, so when you see a serial number like this, somebody had to sign for them and they would be logged into some kind of book.

Inventory inspections I am sure would be conducted periodically and upon relief of the custodian if it was like the US Navy.
