    Can you recognize this ship?

I have in my collection a small lot to a german sailor.
He belonged to the 3. Geleitflottille stationed in Venice and was awarded the EKII and the minesweeper badge.
The grouping came with a couple of pictures of the ship the sailor was assigned to.

Thanks to a friend, I was able to locate the exact place where the ship was moored: Riva dei 7 Martiri, in Venice!

The back of the pictures are written, giving a lot informations about the depicted vessel. I believe that the annotations were added by the veteran some time after the war.

It must be the Geleitschiff Daino, a corvette formerly belonged to the Regia Marina, renamed UJ6087 after capture by the Kriegsmarine.

      So it's everything clear?
      Not at all!!!

What I found on web doesn't match in any way to what is written on the photos, nor I was able to see pictures of ships that look like this one.
Have a look at this link:

      http://www.trentoincina.it/dbminori2...ort_name=Daino

Sorry, it's in italian, but is also fairly easy to read. After the image and what is written there, the Daino looks very different and was scutlled on 11th July 1944 in Leghorn!

Another website says that the same ship sank in Genova due to an allied bombing raid, also in 1944:

I'd like to know your opinion gents! Are these informations available on web completely wrong, or is the Daino in Venice another ship with the same name, or maybe the sailor was so confused that couldn't remember the name of the ship where he was embarked in?

I may be incorrect, but from the last posted reverse of the photo, the name of the ship seems to be the Daino? And, of course, I just read that that had already been determined...

Yes it's Daino! Deer, in english.
A ship with this name existed in the italian navy. Still incomplete, this corvette was captured by the Kriegsmarine in 1943.
Now, the problem is that the images I found on web of the ships from the same class have a very different look, and the fate of this exact vessel is also uncertain. Some sources say it was scuttled in Leghorn in 1944, others say it was sunk in Genoa by an allied bombing raid, also in 1944. The veteran wrote that it was scuttled near the Tagliamento mouth (Adriatic sea!) in 1945. The weaponry as well is very different.
That's really very strange! It's hard to believe that a sailor who spent at least one year aboard could forget the ship's name! Maybe it's another ship with the same name? This explaination seems very odd as well!
          I'm very confused

The weapons was often changed out over the course of the ship's career, so I think that might be no big deal. Interesting that it has at least three supposed fates...

              That's true!
Here's the picture of the sailor when he was still in Germany
There's something written on the back, in Suetterlin. Unfortunately it's very hard to read, at least for me!!!
