    Cloth badges: DDR vs. WW2

I'm new to KM insignia collecting, and have a newbie question:

How would one shift DDR from ww2 rating and career cloth badges?

For they seem to be much alike...

If one could post comparisons, please.

That is a good question IMO as i too noticed that these are very similar.

But as i haven´t studied both versions against i am curious what the small differences are.

Looking forward to see our experts posting

Only collect the hand embroidered versions then you will not have a problem, as these where only produced during the TR peiod

I understand, as are the metal ones. But that's easy.

It's the machine woven versions I hope to learn about.
Ofcourse a blacklight will tell, but how to spot them just from photo's?

any other tips and tricks regarding to machine woven insignia? KM insignia experts???

Is it safe to say that insignia with backing material are pre 45 and DDr don't have backing?

Post war are smaller and the form of the anchor is different, if one is present. Also the backing fabric is different. I am referring to trade patches in general, rather than specific career insignia. Not sure if this helps or if I am talking about the same items as you.

IMO the shown above postwar ones are from the Bundesmarine....much easier to identify as DDR ones.

What i find difficult to distinguish are the metal versions like these here.....
