      Bucky....
      Welcome to the forum......
No original bell would be so poorly cast.......and it's not corrossion.....this is NOT
an original U-boat bell....just a poorly cast copy....sorry. The only value would be in the brass (melt down value)....

They're great for helping the depth charges find their mark.

All bells were detachable and were either stored on board or left at base.
Bells are used as Alarms, the marking of watch and for Naval Ceremonies and Events.

The film "Idiocracy" was originally released as a comedy. Now it has been re-released as a documentary.

A ship's bell would be cast from a mold, but of a much higher quality. A ship's bell and commissioning pennant are the heart and soul of a war vessel.

This is too rough to be the real deal, I would also expect some engraving with date of commission, shipyard data and possibly the first CO.

                U-boot Bell

                Hello Bucky,
I have seen several Kriegsmarine bells in my time and I agree with the others that this is a poor copy. I have even seen one example that was salvaged and it looked better than this example.

                Sorry.

                Regards,
                Jody

As others have said and shown, the bell at the start of this thread is not an original piece.

Agree with all the others, very poor copy.

Hope you didn't waste a lot of money on this, Bucky?

Horrible cast copy! I'm surprised that this could be mistaken as original... Hopefully you can get your money back.
