No idea but it looks similar to the U-Boat emblems used by U-24 and U-48

I am more skeptical about this. I do not believe this one is a period piece.
Haven't seem the emblem for U-24 but know that a cat was involved. U-48 however, being the most successful U-boat of the war also using a hunched over cat and the 3x between the legs. www.uboat.net

Im not expert but they can be U boot cap badge why not !?
But its look like German winterhilffe badge.
