        Greetings James,

I am glad you found this thread and this forum.
Could you provide the lengths from the edging of the letters to the end of the tally on the left and the same for the right.
The copies as John Robinson and Jody B. have stated have an offset to their lengths.

        Regards,
        JustinG

It all comes down to the length of the left end (sailor's left that is, not our left!). On the first photo you posted it looked short like the British-style HMS Belfast souvenir shop repro, but hard to say definitively with all the wrinkles. Need the measurements from nickn.
            Cheers.

I understand the length issue But i think there is ghosting around the lettering and the fabric stretches...

This in itself gives it a possibilty on all accounts?

This Tally and medal buisness is hard work hey, just trying to get 100% grips with it as there is so much to learn and then be confident about!!

But Justin, as discussed in posts 57-65 in the thread:
                http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...rnhorst&page=2
Jody's known-provenance HMS Belfast souvenir shop cap ribbon had the correct ghosting and reverse stitch pattern, and hence is the most dangerous type of Repro so far; thus the reliance on the left-end length to make the distinction. The stretchability of Jody's copy was not commented upon and I doubt that Markus had that particular example in hand when he made his observation about the stretchability of war-time vs. post-war cap ribbons.
For completeness we need Jody to comment on the stretchability of his HMS Belfast repro and/or Markus to comment on whether he's had one of these particular Belfast types in hand before.
So yes I think the ribbon you started this thread with is still "a possibility" but only the measurement of the left end of the ribbon will decide the outcome.
                Best regards,
                ---Norm
