    Kriegsmarine towels????

    Hello All

O.K. since there isn't a Kriegsmarine towel section I have decided to post these photos in this particular forum. Does anyone know if these towels or towels like them were ever produced? They GLOW like a Christmas tree, but nonetheless have some character to them. I am thinking both are fantasy items, but would nevertheless like the opinions of the forum. Thanks for your response.

The blue highlighted towel is stamped " 1938 F. " and is of thinner construction as the red highlighted towel is much thicker. Thanks for your thoughts.

Lastly, the blue highlighted towel has a small checkered pattern to it...

              KM Towels

              Hello Mike,
I have seen those items before. They did produce stuff like during the period. The reason they glow is because they have been washed or cleaned since the war. I bet they were used a lot.

John our moderator even has some nice KM pillow cases.

              Regards,
              Jody

                Hi Jody,

My pillow cases were not really pillow cases for the sailors. They were gift pillow cases for use at home on a chair or couch with the the ship image on the pillow case.

There are pillow cases of course and sheets, but I do not own any.

                John

These towels are probably OK I think. No reason not to hold on to them I think. John

                    Hi John,
I know that, I was just pointing out they made all sorts of different things during the war. I have a female hanky from WW2 and it has the fighting SeaBees insignia on it.

                    Regards,
                    Jody

                      Hello all,

I have just picked up a large grouping to a Kriegsmarine sailor, including many hard to find personal items such as undershirts, underwear, socks and a couple of towels.

Almost all of these items are named to the same man, who enlisted in 1941. One of the towels is identical to the red-striped one shown here in post 2. Also well washed and with that light shiny surface.

I thought I should share this, as information on some everyday Kriegsmarine items seems very hard to find.

                      Matthew

They are original. I have forwarded a picture to John Robinson of one of these towels hanging in the captains cabin of U-555, I believe, after it was captured. If he gets a chance perhaps he will post it.
                        best wishes,
