Chief Torpedoman Pin?

Here is a small pin a friend received yesterday. I believe is for a Chief Torpedoman. The pin is 30mm wide. Is this WW1 or WW2 Please give me your thoughts on this.

Torpedo Mechanic Insignia

This is a trade speciality badge for a torpedo mechanic. It was worn on the shoulder strap to indicate his speciality. A larger version would be worn on the sleeve for the enlisted ranks,both in cloth for the work uniform or in metal for the dress uniform.
