KM Kriegsmarine Officer shoulder board line career insignia question

My first new tread in the new Forum, seems to go better every day :-)

On pag 155 in Volume 1 of Die Kriegsmarine (Angolia & Schlicht) a star is depicted as line career insignia. My question: where was it used and why does it exists since line officers wore no star on their shoulder boards?
