First time for me to see a early ET M35 helmet in aluminium, in exactly the format as a combat M35 helmet.
Fun thing with this one was that it was named and had a rank stamp on the leather, lucky it was an unusual name and it was easy to find some information about the former owner.
Oberst Heinrich Sermersheim was the commander of Artillerie-Regiment 343, that was a part of the 343 Infanterie-Division.
They did capitulate after the city was almost totally destroyed during the Battle for Brest that was a part of the invasion of Normandy.
Mike Constandy at Westmoreland Research did help me with the research at NARA and found Sermersheims file with over 80 pages!
The helmet is a M35 DD Heer, with Abels decals but to bad someone (probable the family?) scratched the swastika on the Heer decal. Was later refilled with black paint on the decal….
The aluminium helmet is stamped E.T.66 and have an embossed liner stamp.
Think the chinstrap is original to the helmet, but no maker mark or stamp can be found on it.
