    WW2 German M40 helmet ET68 4660- Identifying help!

    Hi all,

I recently picked this up and was wondering if I could find any additional information. The helmet appears to be an M40 (apologies if this is a mistake), with interior markings ET68 and 4660. The helmet is complete with both original liner and chinstrap, and appears to have green paint on the interior, perhaps the original color before being painted over with dark black. There are two decal/shield spots on each side of the helmet, although I am unsure if these were removed or painted over.

If anyone could give me an idea of what this helmet is, or any other information I would be grateful.

    Thanks!

Looks like a nice well worn M35 DD reissue with outer shell and both decals painted over wartime in thick dark field green paint, but early liner left in place. Lot number 4660 would date it to 1940 manufacture. Looks all original and suggest you do nothing to it in the way of cleaning.

    Cheers,
    Terry

        Hi Bill and Terry,

        Thanks for the help!

So I should leave it the way it is and not try to uncover the decals or clean it? Will do!

Agressive cleaning, or uncovering the decals would destroy the helmets value. Now it is “untouched”, with is the best a helmet can be.

No cleaning , no collector will want it after you.
                It's a very nice helmet.

Thanks everyone, you have all convinced me not to touch the helmet and leave it the in original condition

What is a helmet like this worth? I usually only see them with one decal, or both decals removed/complete modified.

                  Cheers!

Never clean helmets or dig for decals. Leave it as is! Nice combat helmet.
