    3 Hole White Top

I was searching German ebay and discovered this officer's white top. Can someone tell me why the white top would have 3 holes instead of the anticipated 2 that you'd see with the application of an enlisted man's eagle. I've seen detachable eagles with 3 snaps, but I've never seen a detachable with any other means of attachment that was on 3 points. The top itself looks good to me (the cockade, that's another question), but am searching for an explanation.

    Jack,

I have a bullion eagle on white backing that is attached to a brass backplate. The backplate has three prongs to attach to the cap.

Ah, great Gene. If time permits, I'd love to see a photo or two.

        Or this one..

        Also has 3 prongs.

But in case of the white cap I think it had the standard eagle.

Everything that I've read and seen, though Jos says that was not a cap device. It was simply a breast emblem. But, frankly, there aren't enough photos out there that would confirm that this is correct. If anyone has a period photo of the technical eagle being worn as a cap device, I'd certainly welcome seeing it also. It would put another question to rest.

            I agree..,Jack.

I only have seen caps coming from collections sofar..,one of these caps had a bullion coqwheel insignia.
I've found no era pics with caps like this.

There're pics showing people wearing a jacket on which this insignia is clearly visible..
Funny thing is that this insignia has 3 prongs of the same pattern as found on cap eagles..,I would expect something like this having a needle or some sort of safetypin at the back..

            It's a misterious item..
            Some day we'll find out..

            Jos.

Gene has shown what I think goes on it. Thanks, Gene.
