    Viel Glueck

Best of luck with your sale. I have the sense that many caps like this on Germany ebay and the like are gutted to be made into high end caps, i.e. frankenstein SS caps, by fiendish fakers of great millenery (sp) skill. If someone re-uses the Post Kleiderkasse stamp here, they will have made a peculiar SS cap, to be sure. I have never seen a like stamp in an SS cap, only "RZM" in the Vertriebstelle or "VA" as a sign of issuance.

Donald, I know...but I am certainly not one of them...even damaged items I prefer to remain untouched and I hate it when some poeple patch up broken enamel, etc and as for others making something 'better' than it ever was... -----> ...Cheers, Torsten (ebay id german.militaria).

Dear Sir, I am sorry if my intervention suggested you engaged in said practices. That was the last of my intentions. Rather, I reflect my dismay at how cut throat and destructive some of this enterprise has become. A perusal of certain militaria websites suggests a production line for said Frankenstein caps, but please do not think I hurl any accusation at you, dear colleague. The desire to improve on the past is quite strong, and a more mature insight is to accept the effects of the past on an object as part of the totality. At the same time, I hate moths. All the best and viel Sammlerglueck.
