Thanks for the information. So all the SS Model 40 helmets manufactured and issued before 1942/43 would have left the factory with two decals? This is truly news to me. If that is the case it's a wonder you don't see more double decal M40 SS helmets and far fewer single decals.

When did ET start using the ckl mark, about 1944? Given your information the M42 helmet in question would be an outlier.

No, with the advent of the M40 helmet the party shield was dropped from SS (there are a couple of examples from the changeover period) although it continued for police helmets.
These 70's must have been a special order IMO.

Bill I made my remarks based on the information provided to me by the poster above my reply. I would advise you to read what he said: "I guess you mean army/km/lw national decal ( party/flag colors ) which was removed/discontinued in 1940. Using his information the window for single decal helmets would have been measured in months.

An opinion I don't agree with, by the way.

So how you guys explain double decal M42 helmets ?

The is range of M40 DD WSS helmet , while few DD M40 Army helmets . If these were dropped in the same time than there should be at least same if not lower number of M40 DD WSS helmets.

If I'm correct all big makers start to use code instead of abbrevation from around 1943 ( seen coded M42 with army decals - factory applied )

Know one can explain why there are a group of DD SS M42 helmets that look to be factory issue and why they are all CKL size 70, it's an anomaly.
There are very few DD SS M40 helmets to my knowledge, you will find 100 SD SS M40's for every DD SS M40.
                Best regards,

                Bill

Just a quick note, most of the M42 SS DD’s I’ve seen are ET70’s and not CKL’s

I really appreciate your comments Bill, I simply adore these Massive Size 70 lids.

This SS ET70 sits with my Heer ET70 and they look cool together!

                      Cheers mate!

                      Michael

My double rune (one decal removed) is a sz.70, but I know of a ckl70 DD m42 ss.
