    M35 Helmet ET66 Lot Number 3110

I picked up an Original M35 Helmet ET66 Lot/Batch Number 3110, but the helmet shell was repainted after the war, but retains the original liner, chinstrap and split pins. I was wondering if anyone new what branch of service ET66 Lot/Batch Number 3110 was? Any help would be appreciated! I would like to restore it to the original branch of service.

Interesting note is the aluminum liner band has NO manufacturer or date markings. The leather liner on the inside has the markings R.&K.58. Chinstrap also has no markings.

It looks like it could be original LW gray color. Can't tell from your photos if it ever had decals, need good closeups for that.

I have seen some undated and no maker mark liners in helmets that were used in Spain during the civil war era. Those also usually did not have decals.

This is obviously a very early production shell. I would not be in a hurry to do anything to this helmet. In fact it was probably not a good idea to have taken it apart.

              Cheers,
              Terry

                Hello Terry,

It is funny that some are mentioning that the paint is original? Before I was going to take the photos of the helmet, I was looking at it and thinking that the paint was original? What has me stumped is that the outside is dark Luftwaffe Blue and the dome area inside the helmet is a flat light Luftwaffe blue color? You can see the helmet was repainted on the liner band and and if you look close to the split pins you can see tiny paint spots. It never had decals and none were scrapped off. And yes the scraps and scratches appear to be period done?

I did find it strange that when I got it that it was 100% complete. Usually someone post war has taken the chinstrap off or the washers for the pins are gone. Also usually there is the "gray dust" in between the helmet shell and the liner, which this did not have this? I can put it back together no problem and it will look like it was. I guess it was kept in a very good environment?

I will take some more photos and post them. Anymore information about this helmet would be grateful! Many thanks!

                Regards,
                Drew

I took the helmet liner out because I thought it was post war painted and wanted to refurbish it and make it back to original since it had all of the original components. Come to find out the paint is most likely original. I am going to put the liner back inside the helmet and leave it.

That's a shame it is 100% period paint IMO. At least it will still have it's original components. Regards, Bill

I don’t think you’ll get it any more original looking than it already is,———unless you add a couple of cheap Luftwaffe water transfer decals to it!

Never mind, you live and learn and I think most of us have done something similar in our years of collecting. Reasearch, research and more research usually helps point us in the right direction.

                          Kind regards
                          Norman

Here are some photos of the shell. I did put the liner back in SINCE I removed them and kept the original washers with the split pins. I did have some photos of the helmet before I took it apart and put it back together like it was from the factory.
