M42 "Q" POLL

It is for this reason that Q-made M42s are so scarce.

To flesh this out please let me know if you have a Q M42 in your collection...

Other than the beaded M42 Q, I have never seen a Q M42 combat helmet.

M-40 Q's

I know you're looking for M-42 Q's, but I have a couple of SD M-40 Q's that have original liners dated 1942 and 1943.

The 1943 SD example has the Q, size, and lot number information stamped at the rear of the skirt (like a lot of the M-42's of other makers I've seen) rather than on the side of the skirt like the M-35's and M-40's.

I always thought that this was an M-40 Q shell reissued in 1943, but this thread has made me wonder if M-40 Q's continued to be produced after 1942. In other words, now I'm wondering if this isn't an original issue Q SD M-40 issued in early 1943.

Any information on this subject would be appreciated.

Interesting thread,didn't this get a mention in Kelly Hicks book? Something about a lot of fake SS being on non decal Q's.For my two pence worth I have a Q64 from Nick, originally from Ty which is 43 dated with RB numbered strap. It's a D/D police field grey. I also have a Q66, 40 dated D/D Police field grey. Can't see a lot of difference, Quist certainly kept up the quality.

Quist produced the M40 helmet until the end of the war.
It is very common to see the Q helmets with later liner bands that are factory installed.

Hey guys, I was told my interior with rim markings was depicted in one of Kelly Hick's books showing an example of a Q M42. Not certain if I own that book as all my books are packed up in storage for the time being.

My helmet is stamped on interior rear rim Q64 & CN542 or perhaps LN542.

I believe you will find that the alpha-numeric code in the rear of your helmet is probably DN542.
