Hi all. Just landed this one this week from Alabama. No history on it. It's a very nice M42 SD Heer ckl64. The ET ckl decal rates at least 90%. The paint would rate 90+% also but it appears that the veteran that took it home thought a coat of shilack would help preserve it. It doesn't detract for me, it's not uncommon and it's still a nice example. The 64 size liner is in nice combat worn but not damaged condition and complete with the original drawstring. There is remnants of the soldiers name to the right lower centre of the liner but hard to make out. The rear of the skirt shows impact damage most likely from a round or large shrapnel. The original chinstrap is still present stamped loburg 1942. All in all a very nice all round combat lid in a nice state of preservation with combat damage to boot. I am very pleased with it and a worthy addition to my collection. Johnno.

M42 Helmet
It is certainly a nice helmet, and if the owner was wearing it when the damage was done, well that really was a ‘saver’ no doubt. It seems a lot of vets did the shilac thing, especially the decals, but looking at it with your other two beauties, it doesn’t look too bad at all.
Regards
Norman
