I bought this helmet, which I believe was used after the war because of the liner and the chin strap. The helmet inside back rim is stamped N1494 and has an interlocking LS within a circle. The liner has a 58 on it as shown in pictures. Thank you for your assistance.

Your helmet is of the Feuerwehr type. The black leather tabs on the liner are where the leather havelock attaches. The havelock is to shed water and debris. I cannot tell from the photos if you helmet is postwar or not, but these helmets continue to be worn by some FFW units in Germany and your helmet is not specifically a police helmet as such.
