    Very interesting photo. I have seen that before. Almost looks like it´s 3D with some type of cloth decal glued on the helmet.

      One thought it the picture has been period touched up and the decal added. Maybe it was a Heer helmet and didn't fit the press release of the photo???? Thinking outside the box.

            Saw this picture already.. There are actually two different photos with the same soldier. It appears to be a re arranged decal likely handmade, thicker one... and glued on.
            Foreigner volunteer ? That could be a possibility.
