        Thanks for the comments guys ,I wont be removing the decals as I have learnt from past experience that things are best left the way they are .Closing price was £160.Rob.

              A very good point. That's why I asked.

              Its just a little bit distracting having anything post-war added. A matter of personal taste. Had the vet in his later years decided to spice up this lid with a cheesy waterslide SS decal...that would still be a part of the helmet's history as well, and it would present an even greater dilemma in my mind.

              I totally understand the good collector ethics of "less fiddling with, the better!" Aside from the decal...I really love the helmet!

                  it could also be that the vet grand children applied some plane model decals on the helmet, i would try to remove them , looks better on a dispaly when they are off.

                      Thankyou for the comments guys .Re the decals ,they are really very thick like paint and not like waterslides ,so they will be staying on the helmet .Cheers Rob.
