Wire helmet

I'm very happy with the reviews I got on the helmet I posted yesterday!

This is the second helmet I got.
It's very hard to see the maker and lot number, less alone photograph it, but I believe it says Q66 and lot number 4952. It is not possible to read the markings on the liner unfortunately.

I picked this up at an antique shop. Apparently it is from an estate sale on an island on the west coast of Norway. I feel that this camo paint would correspond very well on a coastal unit.

You can see the "offprint" from the wires in the paint, but as you know I am a rookie so I would very much like to hear your thoughts. Fingers crossed.

To me the liner looks like a modern Czech repo liner. Better pics are needed to confirm. Pics of the underside felt, markings, and inner band springs as well as the underside of the leather including the fingers and reinforcing leather washers. If the liner is bad, that may tell the story of the whole helmet. Wire appears to have been painted over.

Thought it may stand a chance until the liner pic. Really liked the wire bends around the rim. If the liner is bad, somebody is very good with wire. Not one I would pursue. Regards, Barry

Look closely at the wire, it has been old oxidized wire before it has been painted with the green overpaint. Then none of that oxidation has bled through or affected the paint on the wire in anyway. Not a period wire or camo IMO, then there is the liner issue as stated by Paul who know's his liners. Regards,

Saw it elsewhere.
Not period for me.
I agree liner is czech repro, leather thickness and size marking are the main characteristics.
No patina, no convincing wear and appearance.
And an almost-useless wire configuration...

Helmets are hard to figure out!
I will take some better pics of the inside of the liner, as to get a 100% acessment of it.
I really thought this stood a good chance with honost wear to the rim and around the wire etc. The X scratches on it though I thought was just post-war abuse. The wire looks like its been on there a long time imo.

The liner is no good I believe.
This is my first burn. Lesson learned.

I think in this hobby we all find ourself in a situation from time to time where you really don't have enough knowledge, but you're "forced" to make a quick decision or else you end up losing the item. This is what happened here.
I liked the "white dust-offprint" under the wires, the splitpins were tight, the tight fit of the wire around the edges, the drawstring is original (I think?) and the leather was not the typical Norwegian post war red dyed.

Only later did I start to have doubts about the liner because there was so much rust. But I wasn't sure if the zinkbased steel liners could rust this much.

Liner is 100% modern made Czech liner that has been reworked a little bit to make it appear more correct. Some one has dyed the white felt green and changed the drawstring. Close, but no cigar!

The entire helmet was camoed with the wire on, but without the liner and band in place. That is all one needs to see.

Not a bad job at putting the wire on, but all the bogus aging is too obvious.
