I recently aquired this M42 helmet but can't figure it out. It has no paint left what so ever...inside as well! There is no rust visable on the shell. The rivits are the tightest I have come accross yet (tighter than on my verified authentic helmets), wich makes me belive it hasn't been tampered with in that way. Futher the liner is dry and extremely crisp...as if it had been deep fried - so very hard and fragile as well...but never than less it's complete.
The chinstrap is also dry but still soft and sadly broken. To me it appears orginal to the helmet (matching condition).
On the back of the inner skirt it is marked "ckl62" and below "4053"...I know that ckl is is the former manufactoror ET - Eisenhüttenwerke, Thale and the 62 is the shell size - but what is the 4053...a unit stamp - or?
Now my big question is - how come there is no paint left on the shell at all...not even in between the liner band?
Of note the seller stated that it had been cleaned at some point in time...wich for sure can't be recently as the liners condition wouldn't allow to be taken out without breaking...and then the rivits wich are extremely tight. These conditions makes me think that the liner never has been appart from the shell. Bad storage? Hmm...in that case it would have rust spots - right? Or could it indeed in some fancy way had been "cleaned"? Eitherway it sure doesn't add up for me and I'm totally clueless. I hope for some input that might throw some light at this (to me) mysterious lid.
Also what is the value on un such a helmet in that condition?
