                  My comments:

                  1) typo...
                  2) The white markings could be the stamps on the bolt of wool that was used. These kinds of markings can be found on original pants. Especially with the location that you found it.
                  3) The wool looks to be period with what little someone can tell from photos.
                  4) The buttons appear to be tunic buttons (larger) not normally found on hats. So that sets off a red flag. Are the button holes large enough for them to fit through?
                  5) The linining material is not what I would expect to see on a '44 dated hat.
                  6) The insignia has been applied lower than what I would expect to see.

Harry's already covered most of the points I would also be concerned with. I'll just add that the cap doesn't have a double line of stitching on the top curved part of the fold down flap which I would expect to see. The material looks correct but it seems to be worn in a few strange places, look at the underside of the bill, why would there be holes and wear in those particular places? The RB.Nr. stamp looks very fresh as well.

Does it have any pull down loops under the flaps?

Some more wear, more or less the same place as the other hole, just the opposite side of cap
