    Honest combat Heer m40

I am thinking of adding this guy to my collection. It's a little salty but I like it and it's priced ok at $400 plus tax.

It has a small dent from possible battle damage

Yes, the liner was replaced. a 300 dollar helmet at best.

Why do you say the liner was replaced? The split pins still have the washers. And the small traces of paint on the pins match the color of the helmet.

Thanks for the information though, that changes things for sure. Please let me know how you can tell for future reference. I did think the drawstring was post war though.

Can you take some photos of the split pins and washers inside? rear seam is not aligned, not that that in and of itself makes it replaced but the pins look messed with, though that could be stretching from being hung on a belt while the wearer was marching. A few other photos along with the date if possible can clear this up.

I will ask for more photos. The seller said the liner was spliced which is why it doesn't line up. The inside of the pins looked ok when I looked but I will ask for more photos.

The seller said it was spliced so therefore the rear seam doesn't line up?

The presence washers and pins that look O.K. means nothing. It's really not that hard to replace washers and bend the pins properly.

I saw the sticker inside the helmet that said "spliced liner" and I can't see it myself? Is that little crease just above the sticker itself? The splice is not real obvious or evident in the pics.

Unless you've got some cash burning a hole in your wallet and just got to have this helmet, I'd personally sit tight. Not that special. And not that great of a price.

I would say more like $300 at best in this market. I honestly see no indication that the liner was replaced, and am not sure how anyone can assess that from these photos. An un aligned seam in the rear means nothing. Also, the pin heads on helmets of this vintage were made of a zinc alloy that doesn't hold paint as well as the steel of the shell. Again, not unusual to see pins that look like this...
