    Darryl,

Yes you are right, it seems if there was no cell phone communication at the hall the paging system would be the only way to arrange a meeting, maybe next year!! Did you make the group picture? I'm in it wearing a baseball cap and holding a helmet next to Calvin right behind the banner.

Regarding the helmet, what is it that you like and don't like?

I am hoping Ty and Larry Marcella who both who saw the helmet first hand, jump in here to discuss this. Larry is unfortunately busy with some sad arrangments he is having to make for his family, but maybe he can say something later. The primary question is if this is a true ET decal when considering the graphics. Without giving too much information away to the fakers, I will only say there was concern about the graphics ie. runes location in the shield, etc. The scars on the shield make this tough to discern and the closeup shot seems the only way to figure this. I am hoping Ken N will weigh in on this also. ANY comments are deeply appreciated....

    thanks

    Marty

Sorry to have missed you at the SOS. I guess we should have used the loudspeaker paging system and had us meet that way. Unfortunately I was only there on Thursday 1230 - 1900 and on Friday from 0900 -1300. The guys I came down with were driving back to Toronto.

Regarding the helmet...I have purposely refrained from commenting on the forum because I would like to see it in the flesh first. There are things I like and some I don't and was hoping to reconcile that with a hands-on at the show. However, knowing where it came from I would assume it is a-ok.[/QUOTE]

      Ken Here:

This helmet was consigned to me a few months back. When I examined it, I felt confident offering it on my site as an original. I had noted that as far as the graphics were concerned, the damage to the decal obscured a few of the points that I normally look at when determining the decal maker. ie: the important line at the bottom of the runes that appears to slant downwards from left to right. This is not visible on this particular decal due to the damage at the bottom of the right rune.
While unable to confirm the graphics typical with ET runes, I can say that it definately is not a Pocher, an EF or a Q.
All other characteristics (background, damage, patina) are, in my opinion, commensurate with original decals. I see no reason to doubt the authenticity of this decal.

Ken's opinion is good enough for me.

          Marty, Ken,
I was fortunate enough to look at the helmet and had concern about the position of the runes in the field. Maybe I am way out there, but I thought I was looking at a ET second pattern decal and if it is a second pattern ET, I feel the position of the runes are wrong. I have never seen a variation in this particular decal.

Marty was nice enough to show me the helmet at the Show. Like Darryl there are things that I liked about it and things I didn't. In my opinion it is certainly not a classic ET decal or another other type I know of (EF, Q Pocher),
The design resembles an ET decal but falls short any a few ways, mainly the shape of the shield and the runes in the shield. Also the wear appears artifical in my opinion. With these points against it I did like its content and it's aging. Because it is different I would personally pass on it.

              ss helmet

Wanted to start some closure on this thread due to the various reactions. Based on advice from a well respected Forum member, I sent this helmet to Kelly Hicks for a hands on inspection. Kelly personally examined it and says it is definitely an original SS helmet and decal.

Special thanks to Ty Smith for all of his help on this helmet and to Ken N for selling it to me...

No expert believe me, just absorbing here. But it's odd that very few of the scratches to the decal transpose to the surrounding OR underlying paint.

                Pretty careful scratcher.
